2017 Parade Orders

The step off for the Aquidneck Island National Police Parade will take place on Sunday, May 7, 2017 from the front of 317 West Main Road, Middletown RI at 11:50 AM and proceed south into Newport commencing in Washington Square.

The Parade Committee has assigned each organization a Division and Position in this parade.   Please refer to the Line Up page to locate your position.  Check in will be at 401 West Main Road located in the Bristol, RI Police Mobile Command Center.  We ask that one representative report to Registration and the remainder of your group report directly to your staging area.  Signs will be posted for each area.

The staging area will be on West Main road between Beacon Street and Two Mile Corner.  Traffic using West Main Road will be detoured onto Coddington Highway.  Detour signs will be posted.  Parade Marshals will be readily available to assist you in locating your assigned staging area. The road will be closed to through traffic at 10:00 AM.  Any unit reporting late may be subjected to being relocated within the parade.

VEHICLES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO TRAVEL ALONG THE PARADE ROUTE AFTER 10:00 AM.

Be assured the parade WILL START ON TIME.  The Honors Division will step off at 11:50 AM from the front of Hampton Inn and Suites, 317 West Main Road.  A brief opening ceremony will be held in front of the Hampton Inn and Suites at 11:20 AM.  A member of your Color Guard is invited to represent your Department during this time.

If for any reason, you will NOT be attending the parade, please contact Lieutenant Frank Rosa prior to or on the morning of the parade! 

THE PARADE COMMITTEE RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REMOVE ANYONE FROM THE PARADE SHOULD CONDITIONS WARRANT.

If you are traveling to Aquidneck Island, we suggest you allow adequate travel time.  Traffic will become heavy and you may be late for your assigned arrival time to the staging areas.  Please offload at your assigned staging area.  Excessive vehicles are to be parked at Middletown High School on Valley Road and Shuttle Buses will be available to return.  Your bus can go directly to the Gateway Bus Center on America’s Cup Avenue to pickup the participants after the parade.  Any motorcycles, Mobile Command Units, animals and large vehicles will assemble at your group’s designated staging area.

Drivers MUST stay with their buses and vehicles in case of emergency.

Due to limited space at Staging Areas:  ALL FLOATS, TRUCKS, FIRE ENGINES, AND OTHER LARGE VEHICLES ARE TO REPORT TO THE REAR OF ROCKY’S ACE HARDWARE ON PARADE DAY rather than with your Agency, Band, Civic Organization, or Department.

Several restaurants and businesses are at the staging areas and will be open to serve you at your own expense.

SIRENS:  All vehicles using sirens please be considerate.  Do NOT ‘drown’ out the band next to you.  We ask that ALL sirens cease upon entering Washington Square.  There will be a “NO SIRENS” sign indicating this.

RIPTA will be providing free bus transportation back to Middletown High School at the conclusion of your march.  Follow the direction of your Parade Marshall at the conclusion of the parade.  All participants are instructed to continue south of the Reviewing Stand.

Any behavior deemed inappropriate or unacceptable by the Aquidneck Island National Police Parade Committee, its staff, or volunteers will result in your removal from the parade and your Department, Agency or Civic Organization will be contacted.  All Participants need to remember this is a “FAMILY EVENT” and is dedicated to those Law Enforcement Professionals who made the “ultimate sacrifice” and we will NOT tarnish their memory.
